Photography Equipment

For those of you that are interested in my camera equipment this page is dedicated to that. Below you’ll see the various items that I use to take the pictures that appear in my blog.

Camera Kit

I bought the Canon EOS Rebel T3i.

Canon EOS Rebel T3i Digital SLR Camera Body Only

75-300 mm

In addition I bought the 75-300 mm lens. I use this lens the least due to the type of food photography I do and the small space in my kitchen.

Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras (Bulk Packaging)

18-55 mm

I also have the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. I use this the most when photographing food. It gives me a little more flexibility than the other two.

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II SLR Lens – Mark II

 50 mm

My first purchase after the kit was this 50mm f/1.8 lens. It takes great pictures and produces great bokeh but it took breaking one for me to realize it was a crutch. I was using the 50mm for all my cooking photos at first but when I broke it and had to use my 18-55mm I realized I wasn’t required to work for better pictures with the 50mm. I have since replaced my 50mm but am using the 18-55mm one most of the time now. It gives me more variety and forces me to make more decisions than the 50mm did.

Off Camera Flash

I have the Yongnuo YN-560 II Speedlight flash. I haven’t used it much as I’m not educated enough to use it to correctly. I’ve practiced with it but still need to learn the settings. The instructions that came with it were in Japanese.

I have a Dolica tripod which has been a valuable purchase. The legs extend and it has a hook for holding weight. It also has a ball head which is great for taking pictures at various different angles.
